Remember that the American Revolution was led by "extremists".
Everyone who signed the Declaration of Independence (and thereby risked their lives)... was an "extremist".

The French revolution was also led by "extremists".

Sometimes it's not such a bad thing... when your "extremism" is necessary to overthrow corruption.
