You're missing the point. We have never had a democracy. Not once in 250 years have we elected a president by democratic vote. We do have a democratic vote for some other things, but never for President.

It doesn't. I mean, I am fairly certain that the real majority did vote for Trump both in 2016 and 2020, but the majority according to the official numbers were both times not for Trump. In addition, there is nothing in the rules that says that the electors had to vote for how the public voted. The electors can vote however the fuck they want.
