I would recommend reading the AIDS study, particularly about how the children already were sick when they began the study, and while several did die,, many others reovered thanks to the tests and treatments performed on them.
I don't care what a person's profession is. Lawyers lie all the time. It's one of the oldest tropes to exist in career stereotypes. The right thing to do is to verify from the actual source, and don't trust someone else's interpretation of it.
