True, but desperate moves such as this are not required if you are feeling confident in your position.
In WWII the war was not won on June 6, but from that point on, the writing was on the wall.
Is poisoning your opposition something that you see as an every-day-humdrum type of action in this war, or do you see this an escalation?
If escalating, why? Because what they were doing before was so successful?

Escalation, while it rightly causes fear, can also be viewed as a sign that the end is nearing.
That's a hopelessly weak response which makes it seem as though you are not interested in anything but dooming.
