Called my brother who is a pilot and confirmed. He said the radar that let's them know how far they are from the earth during landing will go bonkers if the 5g is turned on. Luckily the airports within range of 5G towers claim those towers will not be turned on. I also assume we will surge of sickly people when it does turn on.
Most likely the "radar altimeter" you are refereeing too.
Yes, most common folk don't know that term
Ex pilot ;)
That's very true, helicopters mostly but some time on fixed wing.
Sounds good to me! I will bear ;) it in mind fren. Merry Christmas.
We could use some in WA State for commie rides.
Watch the sky's on 1/5, you don't want a plane falling on you.
It's concerning and even more so that it's the day prior to Trump's thing in Florida on the 6th.
Big concern was Trump touting 5G early on in his presidency.
Sky event?
Have they not tested this? wtf
I don't see how it can possibly effect landing radar, although it might affect it.
Once the radar altimeter detects that you are on the ground (even though you may be 200’ high) the flight controls start to automatically retard the throttle to initiate breaking. That is how my pilot family members explained to me...not a good way to slam into the runway.
There is more to it than that, when the wheels contact the runway the oleos retract and start a chain of events. The brakes come on and the engine reverse thrusters actuate to slow the aircraft.
The wheels have to touch the ground and start spinning to start this sequence, the altimeter doesn't do this. Murphy's law.
All automatic flight control can be over ridden by the crew, they just touch the controls and that overrides them. They have full control while landing anyway.
As for 5G, no one really knows what might happen, the FAA is requesting that any 5G towers near airfields will be disabled permanently.
