In searching for this op-ed I can only find articles (and lots of them) stating that this is a digitally altered image. The NYT denies it ever published this. All other opinion pieces in the NYT shows the word 'opinion' in red, not black. The fact that it doesn't credit the author is reason enough alone for me to not believe it.

Save yourself some misery and don't spread this around.
