If you're curious about loyalty during feudal times, I suggest Hagakure. A collection of stories/word of mouth/etc about Samurai lifestyle.

Just remember: There is no greater honor than being asked by your friend to cut off their head after they successfully disembowel themselves and then to hide the head so the enemy cannot put it on a pike to demoralize your crew.
