It turned out her mom was in on it. She was the senior branch manager for the title company we were using when we sold our IL house. She absolutely knew there was no reason why my name couldn’t be on the new house. She also tried to get me to sign the documents before the closing, in a parking lot, on a weekend. She said the proceeds were going to be put into escrow until the divorce was finalized. I told her I wanted my lawyer to read the documents first, and I wasn’t signing anything unless there were 2 checks at closing, each for half of the proceeds. One for me and one for her. She lost her shit on me over wanting my lawyer to read the documents first. She finally caved the day before closing.

I misunderstood then, I thought she was warning you. What a pair. You're lucky to be getting out.
