And so... (somewhat putting words in their mouth) to them it's just a massive coincidence that those rays of light cast right through the center of it?
Honestly just as confused with the rays and why they're seemingly their own beam at a higher intensity than surrounding sunlight.
The rays of light aren't abnormal. The light source position just happens to be in front of the hole so it looks like it's passing through from this particular viewpoint. The rays are just moisture reflecting the sunlight.
The hole is kinda weird though. I don't understand why it's darker than the surrounding clouds.
Appreciate the reply and perspective. Another pic or two from different positions/angles would tell a much clearer tale for sure.
I like your idea, but it just leads me to more questions... like then why is there a conical 'beam' of moisture? Would the 'prism-like effect' not be expected to fill the whole image to some degree if moisture was relatively consistent?
It brings me right back around to presuming that cloud was the source of the moisture and there's an energy source independent of the sunlight at play (in other words, sunlight allows us to visualize this other energy's effect).
