I just got an email from a local non-profit saying they are closed until January 15th due to staffing shortages. And, everywhere I look... same thing... "now hiring" .
Some people are home because they are quarantined, but, that many? No way.
Perhaps the workforce has shrunk because some fear working and being exposed to covid?
Or because they are making more money via unemployment?
Or because they had to quit or get the jab, and they chose to quit?
Other reasons? What is going on? The lack of employees everywhere is very concerning... it's just resulting in more division. I wish I had a solution.
a lot of people got used to stimulus checks and the extra unemployment they got for the past year -- they were making more money doing nothing than actually working. Now a lot of this workforce which is "unskilled labor" is demanding the same level of wages they got from the stim/unemployment. One of the executives at my company was basically telling employees who were making $12-13/hr what to do and file last year so they could get like basically 15-16 plus an hour from the benefits etc.
Now that all those have dried up people have gotten more demanding and lazy - as if they are entitled to $20/hr for doing something that a year ago would have cost me $12/hr.
I've done a lot of interviewing for a position I have open - I am willing to pay $15/hr for someone that doesnt have any relevant experience but at least has the right attitude etc...but the ones I've interviewed were like I expect at least $18 for my starting pay and I am like you're 3 years removed from graduating high school and have had one job at Taco Cabana....Pass
basically so many people have a sense of entitlement now that wasnt necessarily there before because they got "free money"
fuck socialism
Thanks for the post. I am right there with ya'. It's almost worse than the pandemic itself... like the PTB knew that the psychological disruption would catch on and not be able to be corrected. Now we have an entitlement attitude on steroids, it is here to stay, and the disruption it is causing is gaining momentum.
