I just got an email from a local non-profit saying they are closed until January 15th due to staffing shortages. And, everywhere I look... same thing... "now hiring" .
Some people are home because they are quarantined, but, that many? No way.
Perhaps the workforce has shrunk because some fear working and being exposed to covid?
Or because they are making more money via unemployment?
Or because they had to quit or get the jab, and they chose to quit?
Other reasons? What is going on? The lack of employees everywhere is very concerning... it's just resulting in more division. I wish I had a solution.
Hey... it's been a while. Wanted to check in with you. Were you able to create an independent revenue stream for you and your family?
Thanks for checking in. My brother ended up moving to the family land as well and we built him a small 2 story home (almost done). No income yet... We decided to use some of my wife's retirement account so we could continue to live and help my brother build. No concrete plans yet, and I'm getting more nervous as nothing seems to be viable yet. Time will tell, but it means a lot that you remembered my story and took the time to ask. Thank you.
I am glad your brother joined you. You and your wife are generous people, and generosity has a way of coming back to you. I wish I could actually talk with you... I am a consultant and I work a lot with small businesses, but I also help/coach people as they move through transitions. You are welcome to message me directly on this site... I'd be happy to brainstorm ideas with you. Key questions: what skills and talents (different things) and knowledge/expertise do the people on your property have? Once you list that, ask yourselves what you really love to do. There could be many things. Then you mix it all up in a brainstorming session, maybe with some beers or a bottle of wine... have fun with it... and come up with a lot of ideas for possible revenue. Then go back through the list and evaluate the feasibility of each one, considering money, resources, location, etc. After that put the ideas in groups... No, maybe, Yes. At this point, the next step is to choose and then pull the trigger. I just thought of an idea for you. Are you close enough to somewhere that you could start a food truck business? That's not that hard. Easy to research. Get creative with the truck... it doesn't have to be huge. Just a thought... anyway, keep me posted. And hang in there.
All great advice and thank you very much. Funny you should mention a food truck, I've spent my whole life in restaurant work. I tried securing a small business loan for a food truck a few years back but was turned down. Something about the bank not seeing enough value in a used food truck. Now may be a good time to revisit my old business plan. I'm confident something will coalesce soon. I will definitely reach out in the future. Until then, stay strong Anon💪👊
Thanks for the update. Go for it!
