Musk answered that question once. Because it’s quite a good question really, like why not get some charge, however minor, if it’s parked in the sun all day.

His answer was something about the panels and associated extra equipment would never ever pay for itself in the life of the car. Waste of resources that could be put into more worthwhile solar installations
