I didn't think the income tax existed in 1913. It was enacted to generate money to fight WWI, is that I thought -- and the original rate was 1%. That's what I learned from El Rushbo, anyway.
Income Tax Amendment was ratified during the last days of the Taft Administration in 1913 and the tax was enacted early in Wilson's first year, 4 years before we got into WWI, and a year before the Austrian heir was assassinated in Sarajevo. Also, all this was passed one year after the Titanic disaster. You can research the connection on GAW.
BTW, the tax amendment was never legally ratified. The Constitution mandates that 3/4 of the states approve the amendment before it is ratified. There were 48 states in 1913, so it would have taken the approval of 36 state legislatures to ratify. This NEVER happened as the ratification process never achieved 36 of the states. The bankers had one of their lackeys, Philander Knox, appointed as Secretary of State to declare the amendment ratified before leaving office.
This is why we now have an income tax.
Interesting! So if we had some politicians with cajones, we could put an end to this unconstitutional tax. Thanks for posting this info. You should post more bits of history here. I'm sure folks would appreciate it.
Problem with the polis is that our money is their heroin addiction. They ain’t giving it up.
I think there's a lot of misunderstanding with this tax. It's intentionally confusing. Also, it has a lot in common with our current situation with vax mandates actually. Like in the way the Federal Government uses employers to leverage enforcement on employees and ignorant, lazy, frightened employers get duped into playing along. Also in the way the propagandized normies are trained to believe they have a societal and moral obligation to participate and they look down on anyone who doesn't want to.
The Income Tax was signed into law by Lincoln in the Revenue Act of 1862 and preceded the 16th Amendment by 51 years.

True. I don't know why, but the feds saw the need to get an amendment ratified at the same time the Federal Reserve was established.
There's a lot of misinformation about how/when the lncome Tax started. Here's the weird truth with sauce: Lincoln signed it into law in the Revenue Act of 1862 to help fund the Civil War, but there was a big propaganda push during WWII the get regular people to pay it.
from wikipedia link to Revenue Act of 1862: Congress passed the Revenue Act of 1861 as an initial attempt to raise much-needed funds for the war. This act levied the first income tax ever levied on American citizens. The income tax placed a 3% tax on all individuals whose annual incomes were above $800 per year.[5] That would have resulted in the exemption of many citizens due to lower average income. By 1862 the United States government realized that the war would not end quickly and the revenue from the income tax would be insufficient. As a result, the Revenue Act of 1862 was passed in July 1862 before any income tax was collected under the first system. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Revenue_Act_of_1862

I never knew that. Thank you for posting this. We need historians here to drop bits of knowledge like this. Appreciate it.
I was given a bonus for Christmas. The government took 44% of it. 44% and never did one cent to earn this money. This was not wages it was a bonus from corporate. They took 44% of this good will to the workforce. Sheriff of Nottingham much. This is criminal...
I’ll be looking at the same thing come mid January. Been in the trades for 40 years, finally started making real money when I dropped my contractors license and went to work in commercial as a super. I now pay in taxes what my income was for remodeling homes every year. I bust my ass building R&D Labs and nearly half is taken in taxes. This is not easy work and I’ve built a lifetime to get where I am, and they just take it. All the while I’m surrounded by section 8 housing, knowing I’m paying for these fucks to live where I have to travel an hour to get to.
