That Mulholland Drive scene is definitely a nod- I'd have said you got their desired comm spot on. That visual is haunting and I haven't even watched the rest.
Worth bearing in mind that although they're the main characters causing chaos, in real life and film they have a Director. In this case the real director (Rots) is hiding behind the cast (the public face). What would happen to the front people (cast) and crucially not the puppeteer (director) if they were ever caught. It might look a little like a 'Lynch' Mob. (A lynch pin to direct a lynching?)
The voice/trauma connection is very interesting, I had never heard of that before.
You're right, there is much further to go with this, so many avenues.
Once the initial Wonderland/Snow White comms had been planted, it seems the nomenclature of these films was then used for subsequent comms of differing but similarly connected events and plans. Pull on enough loose strings... we may get a bit more of a picture or 'unlock the map'.
I realize now that in movies, TV shows, and articles about Elizabeth I she is also being used as a "snow white" comm (Remember how much movies always emphasize her "snow white" make up to the point that she looks like a clown). You wouldn't want to just use the character Snow White, but multiple forms of it. Betty Boop was cast as "Snow White" in what is considered a classic of animated film.
Synonyms of the original comm were developed and expanded on over time.
Words are the same.
You take the word "jump" and you have other words for it like "leap", "bound", "skip" , "spring" ect.
I think they do that with comms.
