After deep thought and reflection, a lot of memories surfaced. They all had one common denominator, they were all large family gatherings. Aunts and Uncles, Grandparents, cousins, brothers/sisters and friends of the family. All just having the best time, cookouts, bonfires, drinks, us kids playing games, and laughter. It dawned on me that this is exactly what is being attacked. Families are fractured, brother against brother, gatherings are deemed irresponsible and deadly. My fondest memories as a child are now demonized and considered terrorist activities now.
An entire generation is being deprived of family, going to a classmates birthday sleepover, and for fuck sakes knowing what your teachers face looks like. Being just 40 years old and knowing my life experience might as well be the experience of someone in the 1800s to a current elementary student. This is the saddest thing to me.
Growing up in the 20th century has also given us more perspective on what we’re fighting for. You are the right combination of experience and energy. You’re the perfect age for the next moment.
