They have had an influence in Earth's history. I would bet many religions get information from ETs that came down as "Gods". After we started to use Nukes they made themselves more aware and try to prevent Earth from being destroyed by us. They are hiding the info because of the Vatican and they are scared on how people will react. Blue beam/first contact will most likely happen in some form as that is really the only way to unite the planet.
