The one year mark is when Geneva Convention doesn't apply anymore to the belligerent force.
I wish I understood this better. However, I don't think that means that the military has to put up with the occupation for one year. That would be a shitty way to run a war.
I've been talking about this to husband. I was thinking the same, does a country have to allow some occupation for a year and then be able to remove said invasion force/occupiers? Then I thought, who the hell would agree to that? Next thought, traitors, that's who.🤬😡

Well, GC is for how a war should be fought for all the countries that signed it. The Law of War manual is how we fight.
