They are the experts in this. For generations they’ve skillfully manipulated the public. Now their messaging is failing miserably (“pandemic of the unvaccinated” comes to mind).

Why? Are they even in control of their own messaging anymore?

It's the difference between being a stagehand and an actor. The DS is great at manipulating things behind the scenes, but put them onstage in front of a live audience and they bomb.
