I like Esther Rolle. Something about her. The way Maude talks to her is some of the most condescending shit I have ever seen. Who does she think she is?
I loved the line at 20:40 where Esther (Florida Evans) says she’s had it with liberal white women. Although it’s immediately countered with “would you rather work for a bigot”...so those are the only choices?
How about everyone just acknowledge and respect the divine presence that’s in all of us? The programming is so retarded.
You have to remember the times this was in the 70s it was actually groundbreaking tv, and the lead into the spinoff series Good Times. in the 70s we were a post civil rights era society and things were changing for the better.
Yes it came off as cringy and condescending, it was meant that way. It was making fun of woke white people even back then. If you watch the interactions between Esther and Lucy Arnez's character they're just fine, and Lucy's character corrects Maude. Flo had no problem with standing up to Maude.
I grew up with comedies like Good Times, The Jeffersons, All in the Family, Sanford and Son, and Chico and the Man, and later Different Strokes. They were groundbreaking shows, bringing us out of the 60s into what we have today. I'm sure if you go back and watch these shows you'll find things to be offended by as well, but they were changing our society for the better.

Much as I loved Bea Arthur I don't have time to watch the episode right now.
What is disturbing about it?
I honestly don’t like her much after watching this...the dialogue is so so so stupid

As a pre teen I loved Chico and the Man and Fred G. Stick you face in some dough and make gorilla cookies... still cracks me up
How about the first two seasons of The Facts of Life? Addresses a whole lot of stuff.
Im not really offended...it’s more disgusted at the level of retardation.
I watched all of those shows too...i aint no spring chicken. Seeing it with new eyes makes me embarrassed for them.
Again think of the era when this was filmed, it was breaking free of a lot of things. But nobodies making you watch it.
Lol...i looked it up specifically to study it. The fact that society was ever like that just blows my mind. I dont need it explained to me 😜
Did you catch the two owl pictures on the wall by the door in the kitchen?
Noooo! Oh man...i skipped through most of it...now i gotta take a look
It's on the left side of the kitchen.
It’s so clear when you know what to look for. Geeeezzzz Thanks friend 👊🏼❤️
Was a bit surprised, myself, to spy the two owls in the kitchen.
Im always shocked, but not surprised when stuff like that pops up
Wait, owls?
Bohemian Grove
What about the Brady Bunch episode where we discover they live near a pedophile?
