I want to grow my own, but it's illegal. I have to travel to a legal (liberal) state to get my stash. I could literally be thrown in jail for years if caught. Yet, it's safe (you cannot overdose on it), cost effective, it kills cancer, helps with pain, and is NOT a gateway drug like the prescription drugs your doctor likes to keep you hooked on. It's no more or less recreational than alcohol. It makes a ton of sense to legalize it and Big Pharma has got to hate it because it helps you get off all their crap... and yet only super liberal states have legalized it?? That's insane to me. Why is this important to discuss on this site? Because a lot of you are conservatives like me who enjoy it, but have to remain relatively quiet on the subject except with their liberal 'friends', and that's just outright wrong. I'd love to also open some eyes on here with other conservative, freedom loving types, and see their real take on it... are you really that against its' use? If you had a debilitating illness (like my husband) and you had to take something to take the edge off, do you really judge on whether its a prescription or this perfectly natural substance that could be grown in my own backyard? In a few months, or less, we might all be on our own for a time... and in many ways we already are as we cannot trust the hospitals or clinics, in my opinion. Many of you have stocked up on food, water, etc... in preparation. Have you considered this wonderful plant and the many benefits that it naturally gives to also have on hand? Did you know it helps with anxiety? What happens if you cannot refill your anxiety meds? Not only that but it helps with sleep, pain management, irritable bowel disease, reduces inflammation, and (as already mentioned) combats cancer and who knows what else.

To sum up why conservatives are against this... they are still struggling to shed the old school mentality of the former GOP. A false puritan, overbearing mindset. To each their own. It's not dangerous. Far, far less harmful than alcohol. Non-addictive. All natural. There is no downside assuming responsible consumption. Only upside.
No one breaks into cars or robs people on street corners to get their weed fix.
You don't want it? Great! Good for you!
You want to smoke a joint every night? Great! Good for you!
Just like alcohol or the vaccine, the mere availability of something is not a requirement to purchase or consume it.
And if the idiotic argument re: "But, muh kids!" is breached - fuck you, learn how to raise your kids and stay involved with their lives.
When it comes to medical decisions and intoxicants, a libertarian approach is the only good approach. As long as it doesn't seriously harm you or cause serious harm of others, the government should have NOTHING to do with it.
yes. we're libertarian on guns and vaccines, time for the party to go libertarian on marijuana too. I don't really enjoy weed but don't see any way that other people using it would affect me negatively.
I was hesitant early on when states were starting to legalize it (driving under the influence, gateway drug, kids having easier access) but those states have proven that there aren't really negative outcomes. I'm all for legalization for adults.
Think of this - drugs being blasted by the media and lots of politicians as the worst thing in the world, worse than slavery that still exists, or murder, or rape, or pedophilia, will necessarily need big government to crack down on.
The right prefers to have small government, so why declare something so bad that you create an entire alphabet soup agency to crack down on it? Isn't that in direct opposition to small government?
