It is probably the same as when CNN tried to make out sex trafficking rings as far-right conspiracy theories mere moments before it was revealed that CNN is a sex trafficking ring. The idea is to soften the blow so that NPCs will think that it's OK because they read a "Why Up Is Really Down" article.
