i had a client about 7 years ago who seemed pretty based of Afghani descent. Wanted the American culture. He thought the designation of Asian was b.s. -- an erasure of the distinct difference among ppl of different backgrounds. (everyone is tribal, even if everyone isn't racist)

He was pretty dark, too. And of course, I know Asian folk who absolutely abhor the designation of Asian for non Asians.
