Revelation 9:1And the fifth angel sounded, and I saw a star fall from heaven unto the earth: and to him was given the key of the bottomless pit.
2 And he opened the bottomless pit; and there arose a smoke out of the pit, as the smoke of a great furnace; and the sun and the air were darkened by reason of the smoke of the pit.
When I was younger this always struck me as an exact description of an asteroid hitting earth, and it still does.
Here's some nightmare fuel about Rev 6

Good news! The book of Revelation of Jesus Christ is the work or heaven in a people. The language is figurative and has spiritual application in the life of the believer. There is a link there if you'd like to read the Idealist interpretation of the book.
And the fifth angel sounded, and I saw a star fall from heaven unto the earth: (asteroid) and to him was given the key of the bottomless pit. (Crater)
2 And he opened the bottomless pit; and there arose a smoke out of the pit, (impact) as the smoke of a great furnace; and the sun and the air were darkened by reason of the smoke of the pit. (The global winter created by the fallout/debris)
Always fascinated me. Raised Catholic. Have a deep faith in Jesus these days.
Pretty cool, I've always struggled with any literal interpretation of Revelation. I'm glad your faith in Jesus is increasing. Great to meet you.
God works in mysterious ways. Always liked the idea of His will being done through natural forces. Makes sense to me. Like it has to, in order to interact with our world. Not that He's limited, but chooses to do so.
Also, what were reading here is a prophet in those days trying to interpret the best he can. But doesn't mean it isn't literal as well. It's both.
