Nothing that comes before the word "but" matters.
Not so. When you teach assertiveness, you make a statement that affirms the other person's point of view, then say BUT, which is YOUR assertion, and then add the action you want to see. Like:Say, John, I know your parking space is pretty far from the building, BUT you are parking in my spot, which was assigned to me because I need to travel during work hours, so (Action) please try not to park in it in the future"
