The Theotokos (St. Mary) was about 14 or 15 years old when she had Christ. I think one of the differences is back then "children" were more educated in the ways of the world, they didn't sit around all day on an ipad watching TV. And I think this is a big change with maturity as well depending on what kinds of situations you are exposed to, if you have to wake up at sunrise every single day to work on your family's goat farm your maturity will be different because at a certain age your expected to do things.
That being said, do I think in todays world its acceptable to have sex with a 14 or 15 year old? No, because their maturity level and level of understanding is much less than a 14 or 15 year old in the B.C. era.
I also think the gamboling age, and age to go to war should be increased to 21. If not then everything should be lowered to 18, it shouldn't be you can go to war at 18 but can't have a drink are you more mature to go to war and end up mentally damaged from PTSD than to drink?
On a somewhat related note, my observation, the concept of the teenager as we think of them didn't really seem to have come about until after WWII, and the idea that teenager = child seems to have started in the eighties.
I never really thought about when it came around but yeah I can agree with that. Considering around that time people seem that be enjoying an "easier" life.
