It fucking works so good too. It still works against us even when we know thats what they do. Shit give some rednecks on dirt bikes with tree saddles an AK and rpgs and we can stop anyone.
I think anyone who has fought learns this. The longer the fight is "group of guys over here vs group of guys over there", the chance that Team 2 might end up on the receiving end of an airstrike from Team 1, or someone will call up the artillery, etc. rises. Need to keep moving. "If you aren't moving and shooting and reloading, you're dead."
Also, the scenario I called up in the prior paragraph is really the power of the RPG: it's man-portable artillery that is just powerful enough to cause some serious damage (and a ton of chaos), can be brought into the fight in seconds not minutes, and is bonehead stupid (no electronics) so it cannot be defeated by whizbang "countermeasures" etc.. It requires no "paint the target and wait" sort of stuff. Guy runs up. Points it. Pulls the trigger. Runs away. BOOM.
Anyone who ever fought the Huns/Mongols knows about this sort of old school lightning warfare. Our concept of "lightning warfare" is more like "well we'll send 52 M1A1s against them, with Apaches and cover from a C130 gunship and a satellite from space". OK yeah that's gonna leave a mark. But requires a ton of planning, expense, coordination, etc. This "3 AKs + 1 RPG fire group plan" requires $500 for the ordnance plus the will to win and for Johnny to spot a target that needs a frag.
Speaking of "If you aren't moving....", the Mongols were also famous for "retreating" in a way that would entice you to follow them, whereupon you would run around a corner and find your dumb ass in the middle of a killbox. Would not surprise me to find that the Ruskies do that as well, given their history with the Mongols.
Love it
Credit where credit is due. I am a dumbass. Clint Smith, of Thunder Ranch, is the one who came up with "If you are not shooting or moving or reloading or all of the above, you're dead."
And who am I to question The Word, as handed down to us on stone tablets, from Clint Smith. Amen and amen, forever and ever.
And, I am only "semi-joking". I would consider a fart from Clint Smith to be likely more important than anything I might say/write, on these topics.
Check out Tu Lam from Ronin tactics.
That is the mantra of every gun fighter.
As soon as you get to cover. Figure out your next cover and how to get there.
The Russians are well-versed in the Art of War at all levels. They were bred in war. Everything they do is so direct and practical. The more I learn about them the more I am in awe at how good they really are from small arms to their armor and their decreased need of logistics to get the same job done.
American doctrine is literally a jobs and corporate welfare program. We will spend billions to kill a dozen people. So stupid.
So easy for American rednecks to take advantage of. Washington would have a field day with a revolution today.
P.S. My favorite story for you on this was that I once watched a Joe Rogan interview of some supposed "Special Forces" dude who said that he was in the sandbox killing hadjis. I have no reason to think it was false. In fact I think it was real, or mostly real. He then said that he was famous/infamous for using Javeilins to kill individual hadjis. A Javelin is ~$250k. So while I want to protect our people and save them from death, I also question whether a mudman hadji warrants a quarter million dollar death letter.
WTF lol. Even the grunts are POGs sometimes lol.
I am a student of them. So you will get zero disagreement on these words from me.
I love studying war. The original sport.
I’ve read a lot about the Mongols too. The original blitzkrieg maneuver warfare. I’ve been doing thought experiments on applying their shit to dirt bikes and how training for that would bridge the urban-rural divide for simpler training and opening up lots of opportunity for trickery. A more universal base training and more effective generalists that are adaptable on the fly. A school of dirtbike warriors are logistically simple to maintain and can forage easily. They can come together and split apart instantly. Can scavenge little to get by. And a dirtbike takes max advantage of both urban and rural terrain. Get some mesh networking going on those badboys for decentralized comms. Can bum rush the fuck out of steep hills with heavy cover. Can go anywhere in a city. The speed of so many individuals would be overwhelming.
And can also apply some Napolean. Can all ride in condensed formation to not telegraph intent and break off in an instant. Perfect for applying his corps philosophy to maneuver warfare. And you can use the terrain and speed to make up for lack of armor.
Dirtbike plus RPG is basically like the Russian doctrine of just rocket shit if shooting it is a PITA. Get in and get out before it even lands.
