It's been decades since I read the book, have a hardcopy somewhere, moved it up to my next read list. Just from the synopsis, it would be difficult to not to see the comparsion, thanks! I'll definitely be reading with a new perseptive. It was published in 1957 and clealy talking about DEWS (Project X). The timeframe of the story is intentionally obscured. One interesting thing that came up searching "Stadler", Ferris' shadow boss in the book, is a real company that has recently (published January 18, 2022) been given a gigantic 4.5+b, largest ever, train-tram contract, which I do recall figures heavily in the book:
