When Chinese people study English, the main thing driven into their heads is grammar rules grammar rules grammar rules.
The result is that they speak English with Chinese grammar. So... I don't know why they bother.
Try to suggest that they learn English grammar by reading English novels or by listening to native speakers, and they think you're insane. That's not the right way, what they're already failing at is the right way!
They study this stuff literally all day sometimes... They're pretty proud of being such hard workers.
Someday I wonder if the concepts of efficiency or effectiveness will ever creep in..
Oh, and the best part is that they all have a maid from the Philippines or Vietnam who learned Chinese in six months just from watching TV, so YOU are dumb if it takes you more than six months to master Chinese. Says the person who's been working on English for literal decades.
