Dude we ARE the average person! 2 years ago I was still blissfully unaware of the majority of MSM propoganda and thought Trump should've been impeached for being a Russian asset!
The only reason I snapped out of it was because I wasn't arrogant to believe i knew everything and I had a deep desire to know the truth about why so many people revered Trump despite all these bad things I was told about him.
The people who won't snap out of the brainwashing made a conscious choice to refuse to remotely entertain the idea that they might be wrong about something. That arrogance is what did them in.
"The madking has betrayed a fatal flaw: Hubris. Easy to taunt, easy to trick. Before even the wounds and weariness have taken their toll, the mad king throws the best he has at us."
In the context of the movie during that quote. The king thought he was bad ass shit and instead of thinking strategically or rationally he sent a wave of his best soldiers through terrain with a negative advantage and while the Spartans were still well rested and undamaged, assuming he would easily mow them down.
They all immediately got wrecked.
Moral of the story is hubris, arrogance, believing a lie that oneself is superior is a weakness in itself. It can cause one to make faulty assumptions, to underestimate and misunderstand people.
Just like you say, it's the arrogance in a lot of people that are not allowing themselves to see what is truly happening.
Always stay humble. Even if you are very great, and are very successful. There is and always remain a chance you don't know, there is always a chance you can misinterpret, there is always a chance to fail.
One doesn't have to talk about it openly, or expect failure to occur, but the possibility should always be kept in back of mind.
Not many people have the ability to really consider that. The most arrogant are people that have not failed, the most experienced are those that know exactly how many times they have.

What's your interpretation of what that means?
