I just checked twitter. There is some medical doctor still posting stuff about how irresponsible it is for people to not wear masks. The comments to it indicate that people still think covid is some deadly disease to be very afraid of! Even leftist media reports that omicron is not that dangerous, so I don't know how these people are still so afraid of covid.

If you are in your 80's and diabetic and/or obese, I believe the chance of death if you get infected with the original Wuhan virus is about 20%.
So those people definitely are being rational when fearing infection.
For people under 65 it is a whole different story. That is why the vaccine is such a terrible deal. For most people, the vaccine accomplishes nothing but increase your risk of death, and vastly increase your risk of injury.
But that was the original version of covid. The mutated form now, "omicron" (if even really covid) is not very deadly, and should not be feared more than people used to fear flu, if they ever did fear flu before covid.
I agree, but we don't really have any data on how dangerous omicron is to the really old folks, especially those with comorbidities. I'm not trying to argue with the premise of your post, OP. I don't think we need to force everybody to wear masks or anything like that.
I'm just saying that although we have heard that omicron is less deadly, if you are 85 years old and diabetic, I wouldn't want to risk getting omicron.
My dad is 65 and diabetic and just beat Omicron in about 7 days of having a rough cold with minor difficulty breathing for one night which was remedied easily (thankfully) with an inhaler
Yes, I agree. Protection of elderly and immune-compromised should have always been the plan, rather than giving covid shots to everyone, lockdowns, etc. Flu is similarly deadly to the elderly, and presumably there was concern for them prior to covid.
