The war that seems to be inevitable in Ukraine is inevitable for a reason. Several reasons, really. The main reason is actually geography.

Russia looks huge. It is. Russia looks powerful. It is. Russia looks defensible. It is NOT! The North European Plain (NEP) stretches from France to the Urals, unimpeded by little else than rivers and rolling hills, and those are mainly confined to Germany and Poland. While the NEP is as narrow as 50 miles in places, by the time it reaches Belarus it extends from Estonia to Moldova. And it's all flat. You can build all the forts you want, but flat ground is prime territory for tanks and trucks of all kinds. Invading planes have an easier time taking out fortified positions. Enemy ships can easily land troops all along the Baltic due to favorable beach types. For Russia to be independent, it cannot rely on buffer states like Belarus and Ukraine. Because what if those turn against Russia? A plain that widens to nearly 1500 miles is impossible to defend. You need several hundred divisions just to garrison the front, let alone attack outward. This is why Russia wants Ukraine. If they can control the NEP, their capital is safe. They have secured Belarus, but Ukraine is a whole different ball game. Ukraine wants western friendships and alliances. They are scared of Russia yet defiant in the face of the Russian Army.

Blood will be spilt regardless of the outcome.

Another reason for Russia's recent aggression is the lack of intestinal fortitude of the leaders of the West. When Russia annexed Crimea, NATO announced "severe sanctions." What are sanctions going to do against an independent country with a wealth of natural resources and a web of allies all over the world? Nothing. Now, Russia feels confident enough to outright violate the sovereignty of an entire country.

It's like the kid that stole a cookie, but his mom was preoccupied with other things and just sent him to his room. But he didn't see the punishment in that because he had his toys up there. He begins to think that taking stuff that isn't his will go unpunished. So then he goes down and steals the entire cookie jar, and maybe some candy as well.

NATO is worried about maintaining their alliance, even as it grows weak due to low support, disagreements, and financial troubles. EU just wants to keep what they have, but countries like Greece and Spain are proving that to be a difficult challenge indeed.

The US is basically 5000 miles away from Moscow no matter the direction. Russia is no longer a threat. They are a shadow of the Soviet empire and a long way from even controlling their region. They may have nukes, but they don't see a reason to use such powerful weapons. They know why America made the atomic bomb and gave Japan nine sunrises in seven days. They have no realistic scenario that would involve the deployment of those weapons. Their most powerful weapons they may ever use would merely be ballistic missiles and bombs of similar strength to a MOAB, and I doubt they would even use those.

Air war does not necessarily mean missiles. And Russia would prefer to fight a land war. That's how they beat the German Reich. That's how they beat the Napoleonic Empire. And that is how they will protect their lands and defend their capital. At any cost.

NATO entering into a war over Ukraine would be very costly and very foolish. Perhaps that is what the white hats want. To wake up everyone to the fact that all wars are staged and designed with one winner and one goal in mind.
