I stopped reading after the second sentence. To be miserable? I have worked for the last 40 years and I can't remember ever thinking I was miserable. The trick is find something you enjoy doing. I can't count all the lives I have saved, the feeling you get is not misery, like the first poster said, its pride.
I did not take from the topic starter, that to work is to be miserable. Its not the work. A lot of people are missing that I think. Its the fact that you HAVE to. A cog in their machine regardless of how many lives you save or how happy you are doing it. You are serving their purpose. I completely get that. If you look at it that way, which is reality, you can make yourself miserable. You can also look at it your way. Enjoy your work and take pride in it. I call it institutionalized in my other reply. I am not insulting you, as I mentioned below as I am the same exact way.
I think you pretty much just said it. The OP would probably not consider traveling and seeing the world as work. I would not but I get what YOU are saying. You cannot sit idle. I certainly would not ever want to. I would like the freedom to enter other fields that may help people even though I cannot financially afford it. Rewarding work.
