I was never around Super Hornets, but the A/B/C/D versions were awesome. Jet fuel, active flightline or carrier deck, and massive power all around. The A-6 and F-14 were amazing as well. Wish I were on deck for the Super Hornets for a day.
...an amazing way to spend a portion of your life....
It truly was. Navy jets have been a part of almost all of my adult life in one way or another and I wouldn't trade it for the world. But being on the flight line with them is many years behind me and I miss it even today.
LCDR Gus Grissom Jr? Gus Grissom had two kids, but neither were named after him. Gus himself was Air Force.
My first job was tracking the builds of the F/A-18. I would watch each component to ensure it was on schedule. Ailerons, wings, forward fuse, nose cone, all the way to the engine installation. It was very cool. As a young lady, I felt honored to have such a close relationship with an amazing work of art. The best was watching each fly off the tarmac for testing. The engines were so powerful, they'd knock you over, even in the "safe zone".
