They live in such a ridiculous Clown World so far removed from normal life that they try to imagine what it’s like and their best reference is some 18th century Dickens book about poverty. I think they think this is them relating to the poor, empathizing with the poor, living in the shoes of the poor.
Meanwhile the poor are looking at this like, “Wtf? Who can’t afford insulin?”
Yeah yeah I know the price of insulin is artificially jacked up by the pharmaceutical companies, but even so, people afford it. They buy a few less coffees. They don’t go on that big vacation. They pinch pennies. But nobody just impotently watches their kid die going, “I can’t afford insulin!”
