not sure how prime minister of canada is elected, but isnt this a sign of lack of faith in leadership and reason enough to call for new elections in canada like they do in uk?
He’s not a king, so abdication is out, but he is part of the Commonwealth so the Governor General of Canada would be approached by the head of the opposition party and after consultations with the Queen, the Canadian Gov would be dissolved. New elections would then occur. It happened in Australia when the opposition leader called for the PM Gough Whitlam to resign. He couldn’t pass ‘supply’ which kept the gov. running. The Gov. General at the time told Whitlam to resign but refused, then after consulting the Queen, he was sacked. The Governor then asked the opposition to form an interim Gov. until a new election was organised. If the Canadian opposition party/party’s leaders are corrupt, they might not want to take on the job. 😀
if this is true, then did he abdicate?
