Chicagoan here too. Yes, it's so important. We need to remind ourselves that large swaths of the country are totally over the whole COVID thing. I will say no one cares that I don't wear a mask. It's just that I am usually the only one.
Yes, please leave the Illinois shithole. We need hardened conservatives that had to put up with communism to keep our red states RED! I often think the people fleeing the communist states are more conservative than the native population because the native population never had to live through it!
Correct. Everyone here says I should “stay and wait it out”. For what? To be endlessly ridiculed to save a city/state that is digging it’s own grave? These far left cities are in for a rude awakening as their tax money dwindles, spending increases, and problems like crime, homelessness, etc. continue to grow.
On the current trajectory, these places will be black holes, shells of their former selves that will require a radically changed (awakened) populace to rebuild. I don’t care enough about this place to follow that cycle through, going to do what’s best for my family and myself. The writing is on the wall.
Totally agree and already on it. The wife will be spending months at a time in several states this year. I want her to be happy with the choice. I can fit in anywhere.
Best of luck to you, friend. I’ve done the same with my wife but our minds are made up, we’re packing up next week. Have loved this town, had a lot of fun and made plenty of friends here, but they’ve unfortunately made it clear those with our mindsets are no longer welcome.
If you’re looking for recommendations, should check out Michigan. It’s more of a purple state, but it is one of the most underrated states in the country in terms of beauty, is nearby Illinois, and has low cost of living. I also don’t ever see a scenario like what Witchmer pulled the last two years happening again. The west side of the state is stunning with its beaches and is a super quick drive to Chicagoland if you have family here. Detroit has also done a 180 from where it was a decade ago, there’s a lot of hope for that city. Something to consider!
Thanks friend. I'm so happy for you and your wife. God speed! I like MI; we might buy a rental in South Haven area so we have an excuse to visit; lots of friends in MI. I like New-Buf too but they are overrun with Chi-town libtards My wife grew up in Chicago (Greek), so our final move will be to warmer climates; AZ, FL or TN. TN still gives me the the Midwest crossover, lol, but I have a lot of family that moved to AZ and FL the past ten years. We'll see. One thing is for sure; we're out of Chicago!!!
Yeah, I have to leave town at least once a month for a long 5-day weekend to keep my sanity.

Why not try permanently? I’m making plans to move as we speak and don’t even have things fully lined up on the job front.
This city showed its true colors the last year, I’m not sticking around for whatever is up next.

Absolutely! Make it happen for you and your family. Life is too short and to be honest, in other states, Covid doesn’t even exist anymore.
