Shipwreckedcrew with the real reason Zucker resigned. https://twitter.com/shipwreckedcrew/status/1488921045574684676?s=20&t=HW7VVW0DTlCzQjo5Rkl5Uw
AT&T yesterday finalized their deal to spin off Warner Bros and CNN to a new company which would be bought by Discovery. The largest shareholder of Discovery said a while back that he wanted CNN to return to the business of journalism. The first step towards that would be getting rid of Zucker, so he resigned because he knew what was coming. Of course he could have just left without needing to blame it on the relationship, but whatever.
So what does that mean?
I remember hearing on the radio over 30 years ago (driving to work) that the journalist convention had just voted, and that the majority did not feel obligated to follow the Journalism Code of Ethics. There was also something about facts being less relevant than social influence, or something along those lines. I tried searching for information about it, but that occurred well before the internet, and I think that the votes weren't for official policy as much as an opinion poll.
Who knows? I'll believe when I see it. A commenter on that tweet pointed out that John Malone, the largest shareholder of Discovery, donated $250,000 to Trump's inauguration.
