We have a great daily newspaper in our rural county. Out of curiosity, I spent an hour looking at their online obituaries to see if I saw an increase in deaths in younger people. And I didn’t have to wade too far. In just two months, there were 60 pages of obituaries, a majority “unexpected” deaths and scores of 30, 40 and 50 year olds. Some seemed to be very short cancers. Some admitted the person had died of a stroke. And I don’t know how an 11-year old dies unexpectedly at home, but there it was.
Of course, this was not a surprise to me, but it’s sad to see neighbors, our realtor, and other young people In the obits. We don’t have a high population to begin with.
God bless em all. Let’s not let their deaths be in vain.
Ooof... that is a good size rural county, but my goodness that seems like a scary amount of deaths. And at least my understanding is that obits are only for families that take the time to purchase an obit space in the paper. Is that the case for your county newspaper as well?
If it is, the number of deaths in the past few months could be much higher.
Very scary stuff that sadly most of us around here figured was coming. They can't hide this forever. The rubber meets the road with the insurance companies.
