My lady friend was a census taker. They were all told not to trespass and not to confront people that did not want them there. She just took notes and handed them to her supervisor. This bitch is guilty of criminal trespass period unless I'm missing something
Your lady friend's take is the same as I was taught for the decennial census which I did in both 2010 and 2020.
I think who the OP is probably dealing with is a permanent census bureau employee conducting a survey other than the decennial (the actual Census required by the US Constitution).
All 2020 field operations have been done since late 2020.
All the other surveys the census bureau conducts are absolutely voluntary to the best of my knowledge.
Edit: I just checked on the census bureau website - they are currently doing 130 surveys, none of which are the actual decennial census.
The lady that showed up here climbed under our front gate and to the door. We put up more no trespassing signs. She didn't climb underneath it the second time she showed up. She claimed to have federal immunity from trespass laws.
I don't remember it being 40 plus pages. If I remember correctly it was basically who lives here and what their ethnicity was. I don't know if they are following up because our ethnicity was 8 nationalities long including hillbilly.
I've heard they will really hunt you down if you don't fill out the long one. Only a small subsection of people get that version. Technically its not part of Census but its closely related.
I've worked for the Census a couple of times. In addition to the decennial census, the U.S. Census Bureau also conducts surveys for other departments within the federal government. Housing starts, labor statistics, USDA, Housing assistance are a few examples of ongoing surveys they conduct. The person you are dealing with is more than likely a permanent (Not decennial temporary) employee of the Census Bureau - those people usually have that job because they have no problem lying to people and/or bullying people into answering their surveys, Call the cops on her for violating your private property rights and ignoring your no trespassing sign - DO NOT threaten them or act too aggressively or you WILL wind up on a "list" - count on it.

Ask her if she has federal immunity from bullets next time
Was it the regular one or the extra long 49 page (I think its called American Community Survey or something like that). That is incredibly invasive.

So just ignore the letters they send as well?
That is a choice you have to make. A few facts might help you with your decision.
Only 3 people have ever been prosecuted for failure to complete a census survey in the entire history of the. Us.
The last time anyone was prosecuted was 1970
The census bureau is not a law enforcement agency, they are under the Department of Commerce.
I’ve got two texts the last two weeks.
