fliciackson= Yesterday I was taken into
hospital for a suspected stroke. =
Having been kept up most of the night
before due to muscles spasms, I woke up
extremely tired and with what seemed to
be an oncoming migraine. At around
10.30am I began to feel very strange and
assumed it was a seizure aura, so I made
sure I was comfortable. The tremors began
but then something new happened, a
numbness began to spread over the left
side of my body and face. The sensation on
my face was not something that I had
experienced before, and then I realised that
my face had started to droop on one side.
My grandma called the doctors as she
thought it was perhaps Bells Palsy, but I
was extremely weak and unable to lift my
arms. The drooping then turned to full
facial paralvsis. I was unable to raise my
eyebrows, smile or talk. The doctors rang
an ambulance for me as they suspected I
was having a stroke. The paramedics came
and they were fantastic. When I got into the
ambulance, my left eye closed and I was
experiencing paralysis in my hands. The
sirens went on and I was rushed to
hospital. My face was completely
paralysed for three hours, and I can't bring
myself to share the footage on here. I was
discharged later that night with a diagnosis
of Hemiplegic Migraines. This is a rare form
of migraine, where the symptoms mimic
neurological issues such as a stroke. I have
never suffered with this type of migraine
before the / but I am just thankful that it
wasn't a stroke. The doctors said that it will
likely happen again, which is a little
alarming.
I asked them about the triggers, and they
said alcohol, cheese and chocolate - none
of which I consume. They also said it's very
strange that this has just come on now. He
did acknowledge me and did not question
that all of my symptoms were brought on
following the /
Thank you everyone to who has checked in
on me and for the kind messages. *
I tell you what, I bloody hate going to
hospital. Any tips or advice for hemiplegic
migraines, please let me know! And also
any natural remedies for migraine relief
would be helpful too!
