If you don’t live in the south you might not understand exactly what “Bless Your Heart” might mean. We all have slang & sayings in our communities and regions of the country. I’m mid 50s & heard it all my life. I didn’t hear the negative tone to bless your heart until mid 2000s. I dont know the origin of the negative variation. It’s probably just a sign of times, people have gotten more vocal and don’t hold anything back.
I’ve only heard women say this phrase, it doesn’t sound like something your average southern guy would say. I didn’t hear any negativity or sarcasm in the video shared on this post. I don't know her history but to me it’s like she’s trying to appear like she’s talking junk but isn’t. I come from a family of junk talking smart ass southerners, I know sarcasm when I hear it. (Not saying a southern person is only people that can talk junk!)
Few lines from Miranda Lambert “Only Prettier” If you wanna pick a fight, well, I'm gonna have to say goodnight I don't have to be hateful, I can just say, "Bless your heart"
Quote from Miranda Lambert The Boot 2016 Story Behind the song. (I see preview but article is gone) Bless your heart, you have such an ugly baby!" [Laughs] I think it's a Southern belle thing! The song is kind of a smack in the face…
I see it posted a lot on social media in comments. It’s a way for someone to say F you, your an idiot, etc with out every one knowing you have cursed them out. It was probably a secret word meaning years ago but everyone knows now. Just like everything else it’s over done!
