When I first got to Iraq there were so many explosions. One somewhere in the city every hour it seemed. This was near the end of the war when we occupied Bagdad.
I remember flinching the first dozen times. Then I got hit really close one night. Other side of a wall about 3 chu lengths away if you know what that means. Maybe 50 feet.
That one was so loud and concussed so hard I bounced in.my bed.
I waited for my heart to chill out and rolled over and went back to sleep.
After that, I was totally numb to all of it. Gun fire, IDF. My pint is you can get used to absolutely anything given the right set of circumstances.
Conditioned.
