I think you are right, They tend to come up too late and barely bloom before they get fried.

It's extremely dry and rocky where I live and very hot summers. I've had some luck with planting things that don't like the heat in shade or part shade.

I have a very lush yard full of trees and deep soil, and put unconscionable amounts of water on it, but several days of 119 is still too much. So I was going to try containers.
