My pastor said their church attendance is down 30% from before the Covid lock-downs started, and they no longer stream services! My church has moved from 2 services to one, and no sign it will return.
It seems it is actually the young that are not returning to church.
If lower church attendance was the goal of the DS, then mission accomplished. :(
There are three church buildings near me that are for sale right now. Two of them were thriving before covid. The third has been a church for the nearly 30 years I've lived here and now all three are empty. None were affiliated with major denominations, I don't know if that's a factor. I've never in my life seen a church go out of business before now.
I'll add this. A local Methodist church, one that a few years ago was paying their pastor six figures plus housing - more than the county administrator was being paid, shows now virtually empty pews in their streaming services. They used to be packed in like sardines.
One more thing, maybe some churchgoers are, like me, offended that their churches are raking in money for aiding in the flood of illegal aliens.
