MS is an auto-immune disorder where a person's immune system identifies the protective sheathing around nerves as a foreign substance and attacks it like it would a virus. This strips the "insulation" from the nerves and can lead to disfunction in the sending of signals along the nervous system pathway. Anything in the body that is controlled by the central nervous system can be affected. Symptoms can vary between very mild to completely debilitating.
