Just be patient. It took me a while to get it to work last night. It wouldn't accept my chosen username, I think it might have already been taken but it was just giving me an error instead of telling me to choose a new one. I went through the process a few more times and finally it told me to choose a new name, I did and it worked. I noticed I got a few more verification emails during the night from when I tried it again and those came a few hours after trying.
