I honestly am not surprised and don't think the launch is nefarious. Launching an App has a TON or moving parts and I imagine they had to build their own infrastructure to avoid Amazon web services and other corrupt providers.
Also imagine building a complex app with no clue if you will have 5 million or 50 million people in a week? Ultra complex and lots of guessing but the amount of infrastructure between the 2 is insane. Give it a month or so to shake out and things should be going pretty smoothly I would think by the time they get Android and desktop going.

They are using Cloudflare which was surprising. 8kun was using Cloudflare and they shut it down so they had to switch to a better provider.
