I logged out and logged back in a couple hours later and it let me in yesterday. I signed up immediately when I got the alert from iTunes, I was originally 11,380 when I got my email, when I confirmed my username I was #38, went to bed and woke up at over 900,000 on the wait list. Mid afternoon logged in and got in!
