All the birds drop to the group like they got hit with a microburst. Microburst being air rushing towards ground. Now some of the birds are able to take flight again.
Theory: HARP or similar thing is heating air via energy radiation. This is changing the air pressure. Those birds near the top got exposed to the radiation and died. Birds near the bottom got pushed to the ground but were ok-ish.
