Except the further “left” you go, the closer to Hitler you get. Or Mao. Or Stalin. Or Pol Pot. Or Castro. Or Ceaucescu. Or Franco. Or Pinochet. Or Trudeau. Or Macron. Or Morrison. Or Merkel. Or Johnson. Or Ardern. Or 0bama. Or Biden. Point being: there is no left and right. There is only freedom and tyranny.
The genocides and fascist-communist regimes are not the anomalies, they are the modus operandi. The extended periods of uninterrupted peace and relative political freedoms are the anomalies.
Actually, Hitler is so far to the right that he’s dangerous. Fascism is hard right-wing ideology. We’re in the middle of one giant swinging pendulum.
My point is that left and right is defunct. Irrelevant. Totalitarianism or total government - whether fascism (notionally right wing with corporate partners) or communism (notionally left wing with statist partners) - transcends left/right. To me, there is very little daylight between the dictators mentioned above. On one end of the spectrum is totalitarianism - maximum government - whereas on the other end there is small government which is proto-anarchy. Except it’s likely less a spectrum and more a doughnut.
180 degrees from wrong is still wrong on the totalitarian pendulum.
